So you're applying to graduate school. . . Or thinking about it. . . . Or did it last year, and want to help others in the process. . .This is the Community for you!

This is a community to ask the questions you're afraid to ask your adviser. To get recommendations for programs that you really should be looking at. To sympathize with others about how you just can't get your act together. To post your statement of purpose and get some feedback. To share information you have about fellowships. To connect with someone at the school you're looking at and get the inside deal on the program.

Is this community for you? Well, you should read this before you join

This community is for people applying to graduate programs in the United States / Canada only. Different rules apply to schools in different countries, and it would just get too confusing otherwise. If you are applying to other areas you are welcome to join and post, but you should be more careful about advice you receive, as it may not be applicable.

This community is only for people applying to MA/MS/MFA/MSW and PhD programs. A general rule of thumb- if you have to take the GRE's to get into the program, this is the community for you. If you have to take the GMATs, MCATS, LSATs, or any of those other tests, this is not the community for you.

Some basic rules to consider

*All information posted here is open to the public. Want to warn someone away from the grad program you're in? Ask for their email address and tell them privately

*If you are posting a statement of purpose to the site, please disguise the names of people you've worked with. They probably don't want you posting that info on the internet. If you're worried someone will plagiarize your statement of purpose, make it friends only, or don't post it here.

*We are not here to do your work for you. If you ask for people to write your SOP for you, you will be warned and your post will be deleted. If you offer to write SOPs for other people, you will be warned and your post will be deleted. If you do it again, you'll be banned from the community

*Please make your best effort to put a title on your post that reflects its content. This will help people searching the memories

*Keep posts on topic (applying to graduate school) or they will be deleted

*NO FLAMING AND/OR TROLLING. Users engaging in either will be banned without warning

*NO DELETING OTHER PEOPLE'S COMMENTS. Users doing so will be warned and/or banned without warning. You may delete your own comments if you wish.

*LJ-CUT your statement of purpose if you choose to post it here

*Please tag your post appropriately

Disclaimer: Advice given here is given by other people who are in the same situation as you, and they might be wrong. Don't rely on this community as your sole source of information for important questions.
