Paper clips, binder clips, or staples?

How are you submitting your writing samples, CVs, SoPs, etc., to programs that require hard copies? Are you stapling your writing sample? Or using a binder clip, since it will have to be photocopied? Putting stuff in plastic covers? Paper clips for SoPs and CVs? Two paper clips b/c you're worried about them falling apart? What works, what doesn't?

Sending in my first packs tomorrow, and I'm curious what other people did. Maybe I'll get some good advice from those rational science engineering people who already had to send everything in. The type of person who is up on the structural dynamics of a paper clip. :-) Actually, I'd really appreciate anyone's sharing their methods.

I just went with paper clips. I originally thought about stapling but A. the staples weren't big enough and B. they are probably photocopying the whole thing!

I promise this issue will not be the make-or-break for your application! :D

Thanks, I was thinking paper clips too.

Ha ha I'm glad I'm down to thinking about this kind of thing. It means "almost done." Hooray!

Paper clips on small stuff, binder clips on writing samples. NEVER use staples! People hate them. Oh, and don't forget some form of i.d. on every page heading--just in case!

Thanks, that was exactly my instinct. Out with the binder clips for the writing sample. Paper clips for the SoP and CV. Perfect.

When I applied last year I stapled everything because the other ways make it easier for things to get seperated. I didn't think about the photocopying issue.

As an academic administrator who has to go through all things that are sent in, I would recommend binder clips. Paper clips slip off or get stuck to each other. If you do staple, I'm going to have to take it out anyway to make copies. As for the other options, it may seem more professional or you may think that it will help get your application noticed, but I've actually been in the room when a professor has laughed at students for wasting the money to send 'all that extra junk'. He was right, save your money...eat well once in awhile.

Thanks, that was extremely helpful. Binder clips it is, with no extra fixtures.
